Assignment #1: Street or Garden. DUE Thursday, October 18 at 10 AM.

For this assignment I chose the street that is close to my neighborhood. I like this street because it is very curvy and has many hills. I Started out with 30 minutes of writing everything I observed and followed the senses that we had to be aware of when observing our area.

Next I drew for 30 minutes the area I was viewing of the street.

As I was planning the art piece that I would make based on the observational writings and drawing I created, I new that I wanted to somehow incorporate the cubist movement in my piece. I used the idea of drawing things in different views instead of the idea to create things in its most simplest form. 

At this point I began to add actual pieces to the paper such as cotton and mulch. Another thing that I tried to portray without actually drawing it to its likeliness was the sidewalk. The sidewalk that I was on used the same exact pavement. I showed this by putting the paper on the ground and rubbing the paper with charcoal to get the texture of the road. I also rubbed the texture of the car tires. I also rubbed on the far left bottom corner pieces of leaves that were on the street I was at.

At this stage I started adding more natural elements to my piece to represent what I experienced on my the street. My entire piece is meant to represent the street by showing different aspects of the street scattered and showing all different angles of things.

 The whole point of the border made from grass was to show just how much grass there was on the street on each side of the road. We use grass so much in our landscaping to show our idealistic view of nature when there are many different types of grass and plants that grow in nature.

The whole idea of the set up was to bring the expierience I had while being on the street to the critique. I put the stool there to show what I used to sit on while on the street. The apple shows what I tasted because I ate an apple while drawing. I also included the music playing because that was the music that I was playing while on the street. The only problem with my set up was that I did not have a title. It was too difficult for people to interpret what I meant it to be without a title to provide more context into what people were looking at.
