Reading: The First Lisbon or Durer Rhinoceros of 1515 (Chapter 1)

I prefer the woodcut by Hans Burkmair. I think that this woodcut is rendered very well. I think that this rendering helps show the solum expression on the Rhino's face. In addition is clearly depicts how the animal is constantly chained up and not allowed to be free. In addition, I feel like the piece of paper towards the back leg on the ground is a form of a tag for when the next owner buys the Rhino.

I found the rhino depiction made by Giovanni Giacoma Penn was the most amusing. The rhino he drew looked like it was about to trip over itself because it's front two legs were tied up. I think that the symbolism with the armour being too large and not fitting correctly on the rhino is important. I think that this gives the idea that the rhino wearing armour is unnatural and that rhino no longer is free because it is controlled by humans.
