SECOND ASSIGNMENT: Open Project—DUE Sept. 4 at the start of class.
This project was an open project that gave us the opportunity to make something that was related to our larger goals and practice. I am studying to become a graphic designer therefore I chose to create a graphic design digital art piece. In the beginning of my process I had the idea of creating a poster for the World Cup in 2026 that will be in a combination of Canada, USA, and Mexico. I started to look up some previous World cup posters to get some ideas of what information is displayed and what would be appropriate to portray on the poster. I came across a poster made for the Woman's world cup held in Canada in 2015.
I very much enjoyed the illustrative style of this poster and tried to base my design from this. I started out with a sketch of a player, however, I wanted to make sure that my illustration of this player would not be recognizable because then that player would bring to much importance to himself when the world cup is mostly about teams not individual players.
After creating my sketch I started to design the figure in Illustrator. However, I realized that the style I am applying to my character looks very similar to one of my favorite artists style. His name is Alberto Seveso. Here is an example of the kind of art he makes.
I decided to start and try to make a similar style art work but this time using the image of a real person and using the program photoshop. I started out by making shapes over the woman's face and creating a drop shadow. Here is a picture of the artwork in progress.

While creating this artwork I realized that this looked like a piece that you would see on the startup page on photoshop. I started to create the caption, logo, and text for the credits in the page. I also created two different versions. One that had a larger black background and one that cropped the background so that the image and text came closer. I chose to show the class the cropped on because it looked a little more professional and simpler. Here are both versions.
No border
No border, larger black background
Here are picture of how I displayed my piece. I wanted to keep the colors true to the image which i would not be able to accomplish if I had printed it out. I also wanted to show a mockup of the startup page in it's natural habitat where you would usually find it.
Overall I think that I was successful in creating a professional looking graphic art work.
